Our team was there when advanced timber construction began taking root in the Australian construction sector over a decade ago. That early immersion gave us a perspective few others have — not just on how timber builds, but on the role its digital, accelerated and sustainable delivery methods can play in meeting the challenges facing the built environment today.
Over that time we have been involved in some of the largest and smallest timber projects delivered in Australia — from [55 Southbank] to [Tiny House Yardstix] — and through all of it we have held to a consistent philosophy: understand more than just the engineering. The issues other consultants face, the drivers behind client decisions, supplier systems and capabilities, the mechanics of fabrication and installation — all of it matters, and all of it informs how we work.
That depth of experience led us to a question we couldn't let go of.
"Our industry has all the tools, pathways and capabilities to be deploying timber systems to address many of the challenges the built environment faces — and in many sectors this can be achieved with equal or better commercial outcomes than conventional construction. So why aren't we doing this?"

Conventional construction works as well as it does because of infrastructure most people never think about.
Over half a century, the industry has accumulated a vast and largely invisible body of knowledge — an understanding of how to manage risk, sequence the steps that make projects succeed, connect the right suppliers at the right time and translate delivery decisions into commercial outcomes that financiers, investors and developers can rely on.
Nobody had to build this consciously. It accumulated naturally, embedded itself into training systems, professional culture and commercial practice, and became the water the industry swims in.
Timber doesn't inherit any of it.
That is not a criticism of timber — it is simply the reality of a new ecosystem meeting a mature one. The capability is there, the compliance pathways exist and the supply chains are established. But the tacit knowledge, commercial familiarity and financing infrastructure that make conventional construction feel effortless are only just beginning to embed themselves into timber practice.
There is a single silver bullet but it is the ecosystem itself — and that takes time to build.
Which posed the next question: how can that be accelerated?

The approach was simple: show, don't tell. Focus on where it matters most — building more homes for more people in our communities.
That meant doing the work. Developing the typologies, mapping the pathways, building the platform and demonstrating that the commercial outcomes stack up. Not arguing the case for timber in theory but proving it in practice.
But it became clear that this could not be done alone. The ecosystem that timber needs is by definition bigger than any single organisation — it requires developers, investors, architects, engineers, suppliers and financiers who are willing to bring their own experience and commitment to the table.
That is why Meet You In The Middle exists. It is time to share the work done so far and build a community across sectors who share the same conviction — that the tools are there, the need is real, and the moment to act is now.
